Mark Payton went 2-for-2 with a homer and three RBI on Saturday, but it wasn’t enough to lead the White Sox past the Rangers in Cactus League play.
The 32-year-old outfielder finally got the White Sox on the board in the seventh inning, crushing a solo shot off of veteran right-hander Kirby Yates. That pulled them to within 13 runs at 14-1. Payton then chipped away some more with a two-run single in the eighth inning, but it was too little, too late for the White Sox. He’s now 2-for-5 (.400) with three runs scored in his limited Cactus League action so far.
