Dolphins placed TE MarQueis Gray on injured reserve.
Gray reportedly suffered a torn Achilles’ during Wednesday’s practice. Gray was not going to be a fantasy factor, but he was expected to play big snaps for Miami. Gavin Escobar was signed to replace him.
  • FA Tight End
49ers undrafted rookie H-back MarQueis Gray is trying to learn the old Delanie Walker role.
Gray was a quarterback and wide receiver in college. Now the 6-foot-3, 240-pounder is being asked to do some in-line blocking, run routes and carry the ball a little. “It’s very hard,” he said, “but you’ve just got to stay in the playbook and overcome adversity. ... Blocking and terminology being up front with the big guys – that’s the biggest part of being a tight end.” Gray could use a year on the practice squad.

49ers signed Minnesota TE MarQueis Gray.
Gray (6-foot-3 1/4, 240) shuttled between wide receiver and quarterback for the Gophers and is expected to be a developmental H-back or tight end in the pros. He ran a 4.69 forty with a 1.59 ten-yard split and 30-inch vertical at the Combine. As a sophomore receiver in 2010, Gray caught 42 passes for 587 yards (14.0 YPR) and five touchdowns. He faces long odds on such a deep 49ers roster.

The 49ers are listing MarQueis Gray as a running back.
Signed as an undrafted free agent shortly after the draft, Gray played wide receiver and quarterback at Minnesota. Presumably, he’ll try to play an H-back type role, although he’s probably a practice squad candidate at best.
  • FA Tight End
Browns claimed TE MarQueis Gray off waivers from the 49ers.
Gray is a developmental project and former quarterback at Minnesota. The 49ers were hoping to stash Gray on their practice squad, but Cleveland plucked him. Undrafted rookie Gray is not a threat to Jordan Cameron’s snaps.
  • SF Tight End #88
CSN Bay Area believes 49ers TEs Garrett Celek and MarQueis Gray are competing for one roster spot.
Celek, the younger brother of Brent, earned a spot last year as an undrafted free agent following a strong training camp. Gray, a college quarterback, receiver, and running back, has the athleticism check mark in his favor, but we’d give the slight edge to Celek since he already knows the ins and outs of the offense.
  • FA Tight End
MarQueis Gray rushed once for four yards in Cleveland’s Week 17 loss to the Steelers.
The reserve tight end was held without a catch, but took the rock out of the wild-cat formation. An undrafted rookie, Gray was a quarterback for the University of Minnesota. Gray finishes his rookie season with two catches for eight yards. His athletic upside should give him an inside track to a roster spot next summer.
  • FA Tight End
MarQueis Gray is expected to see a major bump in snaps if Jordan Cameron (concussion) sits out Sunday.
The Browns players and coaches are already talking like they won’t have Cameron. Blocker Gary Barnidge is the likely starter and Gray will get some reps on passing downs as an athletic former college wideout and quarterback. It’s a black hole for fantasy owners.
  • FA Tight End
MarQueis Gray was held without a catch in Week 16 against the Jets.
Teaming up with Gary Barnidge to fill in for Jordan Cameron (concussion), Gray was targeted four times. Barnidge also saw four targets, turning them into two catches for 23 yards. Gray played a good amount of snaps but was no higher than the fourth or fifth option in a weak passing effort.

Dolphins TE MarQueis Gray was carted off the practice field Tuesday with an apparent knee injury.
He could not put any pressure on his right leg before being taken off in the cart. The injury appears to be serious. The former Bill signed with the Dolphins in March.
