Titans WR Lavelle Hawkins was a healthy scratch last week while practice squad call-up Michael Preston filled in for Damian Williams (hamstring).
The Titans opted to play Preston as a reward for stellar play in practices and because he’s a better fit in at the “X” position. Hawkins has just four receptions after signing a three-year, $7.2 million contract last February. Kendall Wright’s addition has made him superfluous.

Titans promoted WR Michael Preston from the practice squad.
FB Collin Mooney was waived in a corresponding move. An undrafted free agent out of small-school Heidelberg, Preston will add an extra body with Damian Williams (hamstring) out for Week 14, but shouldn’t see any snaps on offense.
  • FA Wide Receiver #19
Titans promoted WR Michael Preston from the practice squad.
It’s a sign that Damian Williams (questionable, hip) might not be ready to return. Preston has appeared in four games this season and will contribute on special teams if active. OL Kevin Matthews was waived in a corresponding move.

Michael Preston caught three balls for 37 yards and two touchdowns in Tennessee’s Week 15 loss to Arizona.
Preston secured a ten-yard touchdown pass from Ryan Fitzpatrick in the fourth quarter. It was the first TD catch of Preston’s career. He matched the feat from eight yards out later in the frame to send the game to overtime, where Tennessee lost. Preston is the Titans’ No. 5/6 receiver behind Kendall Wright, Nate Washington, Kenny Britt, Justin Hunter, and Damian Williams (when healthy). Don’t go picking up Preston in re-draft leagues.
  • FA Wide Receiver #19
Titans wide receivers coach Shawn Jefferson called WR Michael Preston a “jack of all trades” and said he “can’t live without him.”
Kendall Wright, Justin Hunter, and Nate Washington are locked in as the top-three receivers in Tennessee, but the depth chart is wide open after that. Based on Jefferson’s comments, Preston appears to have the early edge on the No. 4 receiver job. Preston has 10 receptions over 11 games in his three-year career.
  • FA Wide Receiver #19
    Dolphins waived WR Michael Preston.
The 26-year-old shined in early training camp practices, but didn’t carry over his momentum into preseason games. Preston stands 6-foot-5, 220.
  • FA Wide Receiver #19
    Titans waived WR Michael Preston.
Why do bad teams stay bad? Because they make moves like cutting 6-foot-5, 213-pound Preston in favor of 5-foot-11, 188-pound T.J. Graham. Preston converted two of his five catches into touchdowns last season, and could’ve helped the Titans in the red zone. Graham likely isn’t going to help anyone.
