Cowboys signed Utah DE Mika Tafua.
Tafua (6'3/250) is coming off an outstanding 2021 season in which he posted 48 total tackles, 13 for a loss, and 9.5 sacks. Tafua’s excellent season helped him claim the Pac-12 Morris Trophy in addition to All-Conference honors. He finished his Utah career with 130 tackles, 32 for a loss, and 17.5 sacks in four seasons. He can play at any position on the defensive line, but the edge seems to be where he flourishes. With his cross chop and swim moves, he can get to the quarterback even in the two-point stance. He needs to add some size to go up against bigger linemen, get better at bending the corner on the pass rush, and stop taking too wide of an angle when attacking runners. He would fit in a 4-3 scheme right now but could excel in the 3-4 if he bulks up. The athleticism is there, and he could be a promising prospect with the right coaching.
