    Royals released RHP Mike Shawaryn.
Shawaryn, who spent time in the majors with the Red Sox back in 2019, struggled with his control, walking 16 batters over 11 2/3 frames (nine appearances) at Triple-A Omaha prior to his release earlier this week. There’s a chance the 26-year-old righty reliever could resurface in a new organization at some point this summer.

Royals signed RHP Mike Shawaryn to a minor league contract.
Shawaryn made his debut with the Red Sox in 2019, posting a rough 9.74 ERA and 29/13 K/BB ratio over 20 1/3 relief innings. The 26-year-old has posted good numbers in the minors and makes for a nice flier. He was actually originally drafted out of high school by the Royals in 2013, but didn’t sign, so there’s some history here.

Mike Shawaryn has been removed from the Red Sox player pool.
Shawaryn was designated for assignment last week and will head home -- rather than to the team’s alternate training site -- after passing through waivers unclaimed. He holds a career 9.74 ERA at the MLB level.

Red Sox designated RHP Mike Shawaryn for assignment.
Shawaryn had not made an appearance for the Red Sox this season and registered an ugly 9.74 ERA over his first 20 1/3 major league innings in 2019. The 25-year-old seems likely to clear waivers.

Red Sox recalled RHP Mike Shawaryn from Triple-A Pawtucket.
Shawaryn has surrendered 12 earned runs in 12 2/3 innings of work this year with the Red Sox. The 24-year-old right-hander will function as a low-leverage reliever down the stretch in Boston.

Red Sox optioned RHP Mike Shawaryn to Triple-A Pawtucket.
Shawaryn was initially called up to the bigs at the end of May. While the 24-year-old right-hander pitched well in his first six appearances, the Yankees roughed him up for 11 (!) runs in just 2 2/3 innings during this weekend’s London series. He could see another call up down the road depending on when the Red Sox need pitching fortifications, but for now will resume fine-tuning his game in the minors as he looks to shake off nightmares of DJ LeMahieu and crew.

Red Sox purchased the contract of RHP Mike Shawaryn from Triple-A Pawtucket.
Shawaryn will join the Red Sox bullpen ahead of the team’s big four-game series against the arch-rival Yankees. The 24-year-old had posted a 3.72 ERA with 46 strikeouts in 55 2/3 innings this season at Triple-A.

Red Sox RHP prospect Mike Shawaryn struck out seven while allowing a run on Tuesday for Triple-A Pawtucket.
Shawaryn scattered six hits, and he walked just one. Drafted with a fifth-round pick out of Maryland in 2016, Shawaryn has missed bats at an exceptional level since entering the professional ranks. The best pitch in his arsenal is his slider, but his sinking 91-93 mph fastball along with a solid change help make him a potential starter as well. This is not an elite starting pitching prospect, but he does have a chance to help in the back of a rotation someday. That day could come in 2019.

Red Sox prospect Mike Shawaryn gave up one run in eight innings of work on Sunday for High-A Salem.
Shawaryn gave up five hits, walked one and struck out nine. The former Maryland Terrapin ace has been excellent for most of 2017; striking out 160 hitters in just under 129 innings with a respectable 3.92 ERA in that same time frame. There are three pitches that can miss bats in his arsenal, and he throws strikes with all of them. The upside isn’t elite, but he should move quickly through the Boston system.

Red Sox prospect Mike Shawaryn allowed just one hit over five innings on Wednesday for High-A Salem.
Shawaryn didn’t allow a run in those five innings, and he struck out nine while walking no one. A fifth-round pick out of Maryland, Shawaryn has a funky delivery, but out of that delivery comes a low 90’s fastball with quality movement, and two above-average offspeed pitches. He also fills the strike zone, so he does have a chance to become a starter. The stuff might play better in relief, however.
