He struck out two and walked one in the game. This was Wilk’s second start filling in for the injured Doug Fister, but with efforts like this he may not be long for the rotation. He’ll attempt to improve on this effort when he takes on the Mariners next week.

Wilk will make the start Saturday against the White Sox. The 24-year-old southpaw had a 3.24 ERA and 76/14 K/BB ratio over 102 innings at the Triple-A level last year, but isn’t a recommended option in fantasy leagues.

He struck out just one. Wilk didn’t pitch particularly well in his previous two starts, either, and he was optioned to Triple-A right after this outing. It’s not clear yet who will replace him in the rotation.

He got the boot just minutes after being pummeled for six runs on eight hits and two walks over only two innings against the light-hitting Mariners. It’s not clear who will take his spot in the rotation, as Doug Fister is unlikely to be ready. Duane Below is an option to be pulled out of the bullpen.

Hardly shocking news after Fister cut a bullpen session short earlier this week due to renewed discomfort in his abdomen. It’s not a major setback, but the Tigers will bring him along slowly until the pain subsides. Adam Wilk will keep a rotation spot for now.

The Tigers are looking for a replacement for Brad Penny and manager Leyland prefers pitchers who can throw strikes. Wilk posted a 3.24 ERA and 76/14 K/BB ratio over 102 innings at Triple-A Toledo last season. Other candidates for the job include Jacob Turner, Duane Below, Drew Smyly, and Andy Oliver.

Collin Balester had to warm up in a hurry and enter the game. The ball hit Wilk on his shoulder, but he was diagnosed with a contusion and should be fine to make his next start. He allowed two runs over five innings before exiting.

Wilk made three appearances as a spot starter with the Tigers in 2012, and posted a 2.77 ERA and 128/28 K/BB ratio in 24 starts at the Triple-A level. CBS Sports’ Danny Knobler reports his contract has been sold to a team in the Korean Baseball League.

Wilk received a spring training invite. The southpaw, who made three appearances as a spot starter with the Tigers in 2012 and didn’t appear in the bigs last season, owns an ominous 6.66 career ERA over 24 1/3 frames. The 26-year-old spent last season in Korea.
