Andrés Machado has signed with the Orix Buffaloes of Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball.
Machado was granted his release earlier this week to pursue an opportunity overseas and we finally know where he’s headed. The 30-year-old righty wound up making 135 relief appearances for the Nationals over the last three years, finishing with a serviceable 4.03 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 119/54 K/BB ratio across 145 innings of work. He’ll aim to rebuild his value in Japan next year.

Machado was designated for assignment in January but pitched well enough for Triple-A Rochester and was added back on Sunday. The 30-year-old veteran posted a 2.92 ERA across 12 1/3 innings (10 appearances) and will give the Nationals bullpen some much-needed depth.

Nationals reassigned RHP’s Alex Colomé, Andrés Machado and Wily Peralta to minor league camp.
It’s a bit surprising that at least one of this trio didn’t end up making the Nationals’ Opening Day roster. Colomé figured to have the best shot after signing a minor league contract back in late January.
