    Braves released RHP Andrew Thurman.
The former second-round pick has battled control issues all year in the minor leagues. He’s yielded 65 walks over 87 innings for Double-A Mississippi and High-A Carolina and only has one win in 18 starts. The 24-year-old will try to latch on with another organization.

Dodgers signed RHP Andrew Thurman to a minor league contract.
The 25-year-old hurler posted a miserable 7.55 ERA and 1.82 WHIP over 87 innings between High-A Carolina and Double-A Mississippi before he was released in August. The former second-round pick will function as rotation depth for the Dodgers in the minor leagues.

Braves RHP prospect Andrew Thurman set a career-high with nine strikeouts Saturday in a no-decision for Double-A Mississippi.
He scattered three hits and one earned run over 6 2/3 innings. Thurman had allowed 11 runs in his previous 12 innings prior to Saturday’s gem. The former second-round pick is winless in nine appearances this year (five starts) with a disappointing 5.72 ERA. There’s work to be done but at least the 24-year-old finally has a good start he can build off of.

Braves RHP prospect Andrew Thurman fired seven scoreless frames Sunday in a win for High-A Carolina.
He retired the next 21 hitters after giving up a leadoff double. The seven-inning performance was his longest of the season. Thurman also matched a season-high with seven strikeouts. A whopping 55 of his 79 pitches went for strikes. The right-hander was injured in a bus accident on May 15 and missed almost two months. Sunday’s stellar outing would suggest he’s finally back at full strength.

Braves acquired RHP Andrew Thurman, RHP Mike Foltynewicz and 3B Rio Ruiz from the Astros for C/OF Evan Gattis and RHP James Hoyt.
Thurman was drafted at the top of the second round in 2013 and he’s shown some promise in his first pro action, striking out 150 batters in 155 minor league innings thus far. The Braves have been stockpiling high-upside arms in recent months, and the 23-year-old gives them another.
