ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports the Mets are hiring Andy Green to a front office role.
Green, who managed the Padres from 2016-2019, decided to leave for New York after the Cubs fired manager David Ross earlier this month to hire former Brewers manager Craig Counsell. The 46-year-old, who served as Chicago’s bench coach for the last three seasons, will work in player development for the Mets. He reportedly interviewed for the Mets’ managerial vacancy before the club settled on Yankees bench coach Carlos Mendoza for the position.

Andy Green, currently the Cubs’ bench coach, has interviewed for the Mets’ managerial opening.
Green managed the Padres for four seasons before being fired after the 2019 season. He’s also on the Guardians’ list as a managerial candidate.

The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reports the Guardians have interviewed Cubs bench coach Andy Green for their managerial vacancy.
Will Sammon of The Athletic adds that the Guardians are also expected to make a push for Brewers manager Craig Counsell, whose contract expires following the Fall Classic. Green managed the Padres for four seasons before being fired at the end of the 2019 campaign.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports that the Padres have hired Jayce Tingler as manager.
Tingler served as the Rangers’ player development and field coordinator in 2019 and has close ties to Padres general manager A.J. Preller from their days together in the Texas organization. He has past managerial experience in the Dominican Summer League, Dominican Winter League, and rookie-level Arizona League. Braves third base coach Ron Washington was thought to be the other finalist for the vacancy in San Diego. Mark Loretta also apparently got an interview earlier this week and could potentially join Tingler’s staff in some capacity. Andy Green was fired on September 21 after spending four years as the Padres’ skipper.

Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports that the Padres “very recently interviewed” Mark Loretta for their managerial opening.
There were reports last week that the Padres were deciding between Braves third base coach Ron Washington and Rangers player development and field coordinator Jayce Tingler, and further reports suggested that the Friars might go ahead and hire both. Loretta could be part of a larger reworking of the coaching staff, or he may even be a real candidate to take over as skipper. It’s been a tight-lipped search in San Diego. Loretta served as the Cubs’ bench coach in 2019 under Joe Maddon, who’s now with the Angels.

Jon Heyman of MLB Network hears that the Padres could hire both Ron Washington and Jayce Tingler.
Carl Steward, formerly of the Bay Area News Group, was first to report that San Diego might hire both Washington and Tingler. Steward speculates that Washington is more likely of the two to serve as manager, with Tingler possibly as bench coach. Heyman, meanwhile, believes that Tingler could still be the skipper. It sounds like the Padres will have a decision relatively soon.

Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports that Rangers player development field coordinator Jayce Tingler “is seen as the favorite” to land the Padres’ manager job.
Heyman cautions that it’s not a done deal and that Braves third base coach Ron Washington is still in the running. However, it sounds like it will be an upset if Tingler doesn’t wind up with the gig. Tingler previously served as a coach on former Rangers skipper Jeff Banister’s staff and has also managed in the Dominican Winter League and Dominican Summer League.

According to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Ron Washington has landed a second interview for the Padres’ managerial opening.
San Diego has been very secretive with its full list of managerial candidates, but it sounds like it may be down to Washington and Rangers field coordinator Jayce Tingler. They are both scheduled to meet with Padres ownership sometime in the next week. Washington guided the Rangers to back-to-back World Series appearances in 2010 and 2011, and has spent the last three seasons serving as the Braves’ third base coach.

Dennis Lin and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic report that the Padres are bringing in Jayce Tingler for a second interview.
Tingler is currently managing Escogido in the Dominican Winter League, but he’s taken a leave of absence from the club. The Padres were considered a possible candidate for Joe Maddon’s services if he didn’t sign with the Angels, and now Tingler appears to be among the favorites to land the San Diego job. It would be his first as an MLB manager, but he has experience in the Winter League and with the Dominican Southern League affiliates of the Rangers.

Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports that the Padres “have done some due diligence” on Ron Washington in their managerial search.
Heyman cautions that he’s “not sure how high he is on their list” but also notes that Washington managed the Rangers when Preller was in their front office. He adds that while the Padres are considering guys who haven’t managed like Mark Kotsay and Mark Loretta, it’s believed San Diego is “putting a premium on experience.” Washington would certainly qualify, having managed the Rangers for eight seasons and winning two pennants.
