Giants designated RHP Billy Sadler for assignment.
A spot on the 40-man roster was need for the newly acquired Freddy Sanchez. Sadler was wasting away on the minor league disabled list and had a less-than-impressive 5.34 ERA in 55 2/3 Triple-A innings while he was healthy. The 27-year-old will look for a minor league contract elsewhere.

Astros purchased the contract of RHP Billy Sadler from Triple-A Round Rock.
Sadler was signed to a minor league deal by the Astros on August 6 after he was released by the Giants. The 27-year-old went 5-3 with a 5.12 ERA in 16 starts combined for Triple-A affiliates Round Rock and Fresno.

Astros placed RHP Billy Sadler on the 60-day disabled list with right shoulder scapular dyskinesis.
Called up on September 7, Sadler made only one appearance for the Astros, allowing two runs in 1 1/3 innings. Giants recalled RHP Billy Sadler from Triple-A Fresno.
Sadler had a 4.94 ERA in 23 2/3 innings with the Giants earlier this year. The team probably isn’t viewing him as an upgrade from Osiris Matos, but it makes sense to get another long look at him before making a decision on whether to keep him on the 40-man roster over the winter.

Giants optioned RHP Billy Sadler to Triple-A Fresno.
Sadler was doing OK until giving up four runs last night. That took his ERA from 3.57 to 4.94 and cost him his roster spot.

Giants optioned RHP Billy Sadler to Triple-A Fresno and reassigned RHP Victor Santos to minor league camp.
Sadler gave up seven earned runs in 7 1/3 innings this spring. He was a long shot for a spot anyway since he has options left. Santos allowed eight earned runs in 8 2/3 innings.

Giants recalled RHP Billy Sadler from Triple-A Fresno.
Sadler has been an effective minor league reliever for years, but the Giants have hesitated to give him a shot because of his command problems. He had a 1.13 ERA and a 24/12 K/BB ratio in 16 innings for Fresno.

Giants purchased the contract of RHP Billy Sadler from Triple-A Fresno.
Sadler, who turns 25 next week, had a 2.43 ERA and a 79/31 K/BB ratio in 55 2/3 innings this season, most of them coming at Double-A Connecticut. That he went unpicked in the Rule 5 draft last December despite strong 2005 numbers shows what other teams think of him, and the Giants have never been very high on him either. Still, he has a chance to be rather useful out of the pen.

Billy Sadler earned his third save for Scottsdale of the AFL by throwing a scoreless inning on Friday.
Sadler has fanned 11 in five scoreless innings to date. The 25-year-old right-hander made his major league debut in September and allowed three runs in four innings for the Giants. He should have a real chance of landing a bullpen spot next spring.

Giants optioned 3B Ryan Rohlinger, RHP Billy Sadler, RHP Waldis Joaquin and SS Brian Bocock to Triple-A Fresno; reassigned 1B Scott McClain to minor league camp.
Rohlinger had four homers and 11 RBI in just 26 at-bats, but he was never a candidate to break camp with the Giants. He needs to hope the team sours on Pablo Sandoval’s defense at third base if he’s going to get a shot. Joaquin had a 2.08 ERA in 8 2/3 innings this spring to help put himself in position for a midseason callup.
