Phillies designated infielder Brad Harman for assignment.
The move opens a spot on the 40-man roster. Harman, 23, was batting an anemic .203/.272/.313 in 467 plate appearances for Double-A Reading.
  • PHI 2nd Baseman
Phillies recalled second baseman Brad Harman from Double-A Reading.
Harman, a native of Australia, hit .222/.311/.333 for Reading. He’s been on the prospect/suspect borderline for years, but he’s just 22. Since he definitely needs more minor league time, the Phillies will keep him as a reserve only until Jimmy Rollins returns.
  • PHI 2nd Baseman
Phillies optioned infielder Brad Harman to Double-A Reading.
Harman provided some infield depth while Jimmy Rollins was out.
  • BOS Starting Pitcher #25
Phillies optioned RHP Kyle Kendrick, catcher Lou Marson and infielder Brad Harman to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Kendrick entered camp as the favorite to be the Phillies’ fifth starter, but went 1-3 with a 9.20 ERA in four starts while Chan Ho Park and J.A. Happ both passed him on the depth chart. Kendrick won 11 games last season after posting 10 victories as a rookie, but his 4.78 ERA and measly 117 strikeouts in 276 2/3 innings are more indicative of his ability as a long-term fourth or fifth starter.
