Pirates acquired RHP Brian Rogers from the Tigers for 1B Sean Casey.
The Angels and A’s must not have made bids for Casey after all. Rogers has had an excellent season in Double-A, but the 2003 11th-round pick is a 24-year-old reliever with less-than-exceptional stuff. He’s not very likely to be a successful setup man in the majors.

Brian Rogers is expected to be called up to join the bullpen on Tuesday.
Rogers, who takes the roster spot vacated by Marty McLeary’s demotion, has a 1.35 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 20 innings with Triple-A Indianapolis this season. He should take over Shawn Chacon’s late-inning role and not have much fantasy value.

Pirates recalled RHP Brian Rogers from Triple-A Indianapolis.
Rogers, the pitcher the Pirates got from the Tigers for Sean Casey last year, will pitch in middle relief after amassing a 1.35 ERA in Triple-A.

Pirates optioned RHP Brian Rogers to Triple-A Indianapolis.
Rogers lost his spot by giving up homers to the only two batters he faced Saturday against the Reds. He allowed three runs in two innings overall.
  • DET 1st Baseman
Pirates non-tendered first baseman Brad Eldred and RHP Brian Rogers.
Both players had already been designated for assignment. The Pirates declined to non-tender any arbitration-eligible players, like Xavier Nady.

Pirates designated RHP Brian Rogers for assignment.
Rogers, the reliever the Pirates picked up from the Tigers for Sean Casey in 2006, had a 3.05 ERA with 50 hits allowed and a 65/32 K/BB ratio for Triple-A Indianapolis last season. His fastball is a little below average, but he wouldn’t be a bad use of a 40-man roster spot.

The Pirates have reportedly re-signed right-hander Brian Rogers to a minor league contract.
Both Rogers and Brad Eldred were non-tendered on Wednesday. Eldred apparently will explore opportunities elsewhere.
  • PIT Relief Pitcher
Pirates purchased the contract of RHP Brian Rogers from Triple-A Indianapolis.
Rogers, the reliever the Pirates acquired from the Tigers for Sean Casey, had a 2.12 ERA and an 82/17 K/BB ratio in 76 1/3 innings, most of them coming in Double-A. The Pirates will likely try him in a setup role soon enough.

Brian Rogers earned a relief victory for Grand Canyon of the AFL after pitching two scoreless innings on Wednesday.
He struck out three. Rogers, who was acquired from the Tigers for Sean Casey at the deadline, gave up eight runs in 8 1/3 innings after joining the Pirates for the final month of the season. He’ll get a chance to claim a spot in Pittsburgh’s pen next spring, but he’ll probably end up spending at least a month or two in Triple-A.

Pirates optioned RHP Brian Rogers to Triple-A Indianapols; reassigned RHP Jesse Chavez, 3B-OF Mike Edwards, INF Nick Green and OF Chris Aguila to minor league camp.
Rogers, the pitcher the Pirates got from the Tigers for Sean Casey last year, had a 4.91 ERA and seven strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings. He’ll spend time in the Pittsburgh pen before the year is out.
