Schlitter

Schlitter made a return to the majors in 2019 after a four-year absence. He’ll turn 35 next month and is merely a depth addition.

Schlitter, 33, appeared in six games with the A’s in 2019 and posted a 4.64 ERA and 31/11 K/BB ratio over 42 2/3 innings in Triple-A. He’s organizational depth at this point in his career.

Schlitter was designated for assignment by Oakland on Monday and passed through waivers unclaimed. The 33-year-old will continue to serve as organizational relief depth for the Athletics.

The move clears a roster spot for setup man Jake Diekman, who was acquired from the Royals on Saturday. Schlitter, 33, has posted a 3.72 ERA in 9 2/3 innings of relief this season at the major league level and could draw interest from other teams on the waiver wire.

Schlitter has been the closer this season at Vegas, where he holds a 3.89 ERA and 27/5 K/BB ratio over 34 2/3 innings. The 33-year-old hasn’t appeared in the majors since 2015.

Schlitter, 32, has not appeared in an MLB game since 2015. He spent the 2018 season with the Dodgers Triple-A club, and posted a 3.36 ERA and 46/26 K/BB ratio over 67 innings. He’ll likely be organizational depth for the A’s, but could get a chance to complete for a spot in the back of the dominant Oakland bullpen.

Schlitter missed the entire 2011 season because of an elbow injury. The 25-year-old righty has a decent 3.32 career ERA in the minors and should find a gig for 2012.

Schlitter was designated for assignment after the Cubs reinstated Carlos Zambrano to the 40-man roster last week. The 25-year-old right-hander missed the entire 2011 season due to an elbow injury.

Schlitter, who will turn 31 in December, spent all of this season at Triple-A Albuquerque, posting a 3.64 ERA and 43/21 K/BB ratio over 42 innings. He’ll look for another minor league contract this winter.

The Cubs needed a fresh arm in the bullpen for Sunday night’s game against the Reds, so the 29-year-old gets another opportunity in the Cubs bullpen. He has posted a 8.10 ERA, 2.10 WHIP and 4/2 K/BB ratio over 6 2/3 innings on the season.
