Athletics reassigned SS Leo De Vries, LHPs Gage Jump and Matt Krook, C Chad Wallach, 3B Tommy White, 2B Michael Stefanic, OFs Cade Marlowe and Henry Bolte, RHPs Nick Hernandez, Brooks Kriske and Wander Suero to minor league camp.
De Vries put together an extremely impressive showing in Cactus League play, hitting .409 (18-for-44) with three homers and 11 RBI in 17 contests. The switch-hitting 19-year-old prodigy was the centerpiece of the Mason Miller blockbuster at the trade deadline last July and will open the minor league season at Double-A Midland. It wouldn’t be shocking at all if he reached the big leagues as a teenager in the second half. He’s one of the top 10 prospects in the entire fantasy landscape entering 2026.
  • ATH Relief Pitcher #61
Athletics signed RHP Brooks Kriske to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Kriske struggled to a lackluster 7.50 ERA — 4.36 FIP — 1.94 WHIP and 18/15 K/BB ratio across 18 innings between the Cubs and Twins this past season. The 31-year-old journeyman reliever has shown an ability to consistently miss bats but subpar control continues to hamper his ability to stick at the highest level. He’s a low-risk lottery ticket for the Athletics as a depth addition entering spring training.
  • FA Starting Pitcher #24
Guardians RHP Triston McKenzie elected free agency.
McKenzie headlines a group of 19 players who elected minor league free agency earlier this week, including catcher Matt Thaiss; infielders Scott Kingery, Keston Hiura, Sergio Alcántara, Terrin Vavra and Vimael Machín; outfielders Jose Siri, Connor Joe and Jordyn Adams; and relievers Noah Davis, Scott Blewett, Brooks Kriske, Kevin Herget, Cionel Pérez, Darren McCaughan, Richard Lovelady, José Ruiz and Jordan Weems.
  • MIN Relief Pitcher #61
Twins sent RHP Brooks Kriske outright to Triple-A St. Paul.
Kriske has the option to elect free agency or stick around as emergency relief depth. The 31-year-old journeyman struggled to a calamitous 11.70 ERA across 10 innings over 11 appearances before passing through waivers unclaimed.
  • MIN Relief Pitcher #61
Twins designated RHP Brooks Kriske for assignment.
Minnesota has elected to jettison Kriske after the journeyman reliever compiled a bloated 11.70 ERA across 10 innings over 11 appearances. He’ll likely pass through waivers unclaimed.
  • MIN Relief Pitcher #57
Twins claimed RHP Brooks Kriske off waivers from the Cubs.
Kriske is out of options, so he’ll go right on to the active roster. The 31-year-old had pitched six scoreless innings for the Cubs this season, though he walked five (one intentionally) in the process. He has an 8.78 ERA in 27 2/3 major league innings since debuting with the Rockies in 2020.
  • CHC Relief Pitcher #57
Cubs designated RHP Brooks Kriske for assignment.
Kriske loses his spot on Chicago’s active roster with trade acquisition Michael Soroka being added prior to Saturday’s game against the Orioles. The 31-year-old righty tossed six scoreless frames over four relief appearances this season in his Chicago debut.
  • CHC Relief Pitcher #57
Cubs selected the contract of RHP Brooks Kriske from Triple-A Iowa.
Kriske sipped a quick cup of coffee earlier this season with the Cubs, making one relief appearance back in late May. The 31-year-old joins Chicago’s relief mix ahead of Saturday’s game against the Yankees, where he spent the first few years of his career after being drafted back in 2016.
  • CHC Relief Pitcher #57
Cubs sent RHP Brooks Kriske outright to Triple-A Iowa.
Kriske passed through waivers after being designated for assignment earlier this week. The 31-year-old made only one relief appearance, tossing a pair of scoreless innings, before being removed from Chicago’s roster. He’ll presumably stick around as extra organizational relief depth.
  • CHC Relief Pitcher #57
Cubs designated RHP Brooks Kriske for assignment.
The Cubs needed to clear a spot on both their 26-man and 40-man rosters to make room for Génesis Cabrera on Thursday and unfortunately for Kriske he was the odd-man out. The 31-year-old hurler made just one appearance with the Cubs, hurling two scoreless frames with one strikeout. There’s a chance that he could attract some interest on waivers.
