Ramos

Ramos gave up six runs (five earned) on 10 hits over 8 2/3 innings (5.19 ERA) this spring. The 27-year-old southpaw had a 3.92 ERA and 31/29 K/BB ratio over 59 relief appearances with the Rays last season and figures to pitch at the major league level at some point in 2012.

He takes the roster spot of Brandon Gomes. Ramos posted a 1.69 ERA and 0.69 WHIP at Durham and will give manager Joe Maddon another relief option from the left side.

The move clears room for Jeremy Hellickson (shoulder) and Kyle Farnsworth (elbow) to be activated from the disabled list Saturday. Ramos has a 1.74 ERA and 17/9 K/BB ratio in 20 2/3 innings with the Rays this season and should find his way back to the major league level soon.

Ramos has a 1.46 ERA and 0.93 WHIP in 24 2/3 innings this season. Look for him to be used in low-leverage situations as a longman out of the bullpen.

Plans could change depending on how David Price fares in the first contest, but if Price pitches deep into the game as expected, the Rays will go with a bullpen start in the evening. Ramos boasts a 2.08 ERA and 1.04 WHIP over nine appearances this season but hasn’t started a game at any level since 2010.

With Luke Scott (oblique) heading to the 15-day disabled list, the Rays are using their vacant roster spot to add Ramos as bullpen depth for a couple days. He’s pitched well for Tampa Bay this season, owning a 1.74 ERA and 17/9 K/BB ratio through 20 2/3 innings.

Ramos tossed four scoreless innings on Saturday night against the Mariners. The 28-year-old lefty has a 1.46 ERA and 0.93 WHIP in 24 2/3 innings this season. He should be brought back up in a couple of weeks.

He took the loss Wednesday in Toronto. Prior to those outings, Ramos hadn’t allowed a run in May. He owns a 3.44 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 12/5 K/BB ratio over 18 1/3 frames, but only one hold in 17 games.

Ramos had a 2.10 ERA and 29/10 K/BB ratio over 30 innings last season in the majors. The 28-year-old southpaw is out of options this spring, so he has a good shot to make the Rays’ Opening Day roster.

Ramos allowed one run over six relief appearances (3.86 ERA) with the big club last month. He was 0-2 with a 3.86 ERA over three starts with Triple-A Portland.
