Cubs 2B prospect Chase Strumpf went 4-for-5 with two doubles on Sunday for short-season Eugene.
Strumpf also drove in a run. The Cubs selected the second baseman with their second-round selection this June, and the former UCLA star has gotten off to a bit of a slow start with a .231 average in his first 39 at-bats. That sample is very small, however, and Strumpf has hit .294/.400/.471 since his promotion to the Northwest League. He has a chance for an above-average hit tool from the right side, and he also has average power that should give him 15-plus homer seasons. Consistency was an issue at UCLA, but Strumpf has a solid upside, and could help the Cubs before the end of 2022.
