Miguel Vargas hit his 33rd homer, walked twice and stole his 20th base Saturday in the White Sox’s 3-1 win over the Tigers.

Vargas walked and stole second base before coming around to score on teammate Munetaka Murakami’s RBI single in the opening frame. He also provided a pivotal insurance run when he took Jackson Jobe deep in the sixth. The 26-year-old former top prospect’s impressive breakthrough campaign sees him join Pete Crow-Armstrong, James Wood and CJ Abrams as the fourth member of the 30-homer, 20-steal club this season.

CWS Starting Pitcher #59

Sean Burke limited the Tigers to one run in six innings and earned his 10th win Saturday.

Back starting today after working behind an opener Monday, Burke had another successful outing, even though his velocity was down; he averaged 95.8 mph with his fastball last time out and was at 94.9 mph for the season, but he came in at just 93.7 mph today. It’s a bit concerning, but given that he faces the Rockies at home next week, he still looks like a nice play in mixed leagues.
Noah Schultz

CWS Starting Pitcher #76

Noah Schultz earned his first hold by recording four strikeouts in 1 2/3 scoreless innings Saturday against the Tigers.

This was impressive. Schultz threw first-pitch strikes to all eight batters he faced, and while he did give up a couple of hits, they were on soft flyballs hit 83 and 69 mph, respectively. Schultz also pitched two scoreless innings Wednesday in his first relief appearance after being called up Tuesday. If he can keep this up, it could make the White Sox quite a bit more dangerous in October.
Grant Taylor

CWS Relief Pitcher #31

Grant Taylor got four outs for his 10th save Saturday against the Tigers.

Taylor just threw 2 1/3 innings and 35 pitches in a save Thursday, but since this is late September in a pennant race, he was right back out there again today. He’s now thrown seven innings and 123 pitches over the last eight days, so he’ll certainly be down on Sunday. Bryan Hudson will be a candidate for a save then.
Colson Montgomery

CWS Shortstop #12

Colson Montgomery struck out all three times up against the Tigers on Saturday.

Montgomery had a nice game Friday, but even then, he still struck out twice. He’s up to 216 strikeouts with seven games to go. It’s the seventh-highest total of all time, and he’s currently seven behind Mark Reynolds for the major league record. However, there’s the chance he could overtake Reynolds and not wind up as the record holder, since Kyle Schwarber entered today at 214.
Tristan Peters

CWS Center Fielder #29

Tristan Peters (shoulder) is not in the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Tigers.

Peters is officially day-to-day with a left shoulder contusion, according to the White Sox. It doesn’t sound like he underwent any precautionary imaging after running full speed into the outfield wall during the fifth inning of Friday’s eventual loss to Detroit. The 26-year-old breakout sensation is presumably going to get a couple additional days off to rest and recover in the aftermath of the scary-looking collision.
Mike Vasil

CWS Relief Pitcher #61

Mike Vasil (elbow) played catch on Friday.

It was Vasil’s first time throwing since undergoing Tommy John surgery back in late March. The 26-year-old reliever is at the outset of his throwing progression and is likely to miss a good portion of next season while working his way back.
Miguel Vargas

CWS 3rd Baseman #20

Miguel Vargas went 2-for-5 with a homer, double and three RBI on Friday evening, but it wasn’t enough to lead the White Sox past the Tigers.

Vargas capped off a six-run uprising in the opening inning with an RBI double off the wall in left field. He then added a 403-foot (101.7-mph EV) two-run blast off of Beau Brieske in the third inning that proved to be the extent of the White Sox’ scoring in the ballgame. He’s having a very strong season at the dish for fantasy managers, slashing .249/.357/.477 with 32 homers, 87 RBI, 99 runs scored and 19 stolen bases.
Colson Montgomery

CWS Shortstop #12

Colson Montgomery went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI on Friday night as the White Sox fell to the Tigers.

Montgomery broke the game open in the first inning with a three-run double off of Andrew Sears that made it a 5-0 ballgame. He then scored on an RBI double off the bat of Miguel Vargas. He also singled in the ballgame. With his two-hit night, the 24-year-old infielder is slashing .206/.291/.422 with 31 homers, 87 RBI and one stolen base on the season.
David Sandlin

CWS Starting Pitcher #54

David Sandlin was hit hard in a no-decision against the Tigers on Friday night, giving up five runs on seven hits in his four-plus innings of work.

The 25-year-old right-hander punched out four batters on the night while issuing one free pass. The Tigers scratched out single runs against him in the first and third innings, but Sandlin was staked to an early 8-2 lead and just needed to keep the train on the tracks to earn a victory. Instead, he allowed the first four hitters to reach to start the fifth inning before turning the ball over to the bullpen. He got nine whiffs on 74 pitches on the night, posting a CSW of 36 percent. He’ll carry a 6.29 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and a 33/13 K/BB ratio (34 1/3 innings) into his final start of the regular season on Thursday against the Royals in Kansas City.
