Miguel Vargas went 2-for-4 with a grand slam and a career-high six RBI on Monday, propelling the White Sox to a lopsided 9-4 win over the Marlins.

Vargas did most of his damage in the early stages of Monday’s eventual rout at loanDepot park, putting Chicago on the scoreboard with an RBI single in the third inning before walloping a grand slam down the left field line off Marlins starter Chris Paddack in the fourth. It was his first round-tripper of the season. He picked up an additional RBI with a sixth inning sacrifice fly to cap off one of the strongest performances of his career. The 26-year-old former top prospect remains a strong corner infield option for fantasy managers in deeper mixed leagues.

Jordan Hicks tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings to record his first save of the season on Monday against the Marlins.

Technically, it goes down as a save since Hicks came on to record the final out of the eighth inning with the potential tying run in the on-deck circle after Sean Newcomb loaded the bases with Chicago leading 9-4 at the time. The 29-year-old is highly unlikely to be pitching in a ton of high-leverage spots this season unless the White Sox are interested in boosting his hypothetical trade value.

Davis Martin was charged with three runs over five innings on Monday in a win over the Marlins.

Martin received a touchdown and a two-point conversion worth of run support from Chicago’s suddenly sizzling offense during his season debut. He gave a couple runs back in the fourth when Liam Hicks took him deep for a two-run shot, but he had enough of a cushion that he was able to cruise to a relatively easy win. He struck out six and only handed out a pair of free passes. He’ll square off against the Blue Jays on Sunday to close out a two-start week.

Munetaka Murakami is batting second on Monday against the Rays.

Murakami finds himself in the prime spot on Chicago manager Will Venable’s lineup card for the second consecutive game. The 26-year-old offseason acquisition has homered in three straight games to begin his major-league career. It’s an extremely small sample size, but the over-the-fence pop is very real. The biggest question is going to be how Murakami adjusts once the league starts to get a book on him. For now, he looks like a viable mixed-league option in all fantasy formats, even with the strikeout concerns.

Colson Montgomery blasted a grand slam and drove in five runs on Sunday, but it was all for naught as the White Sox fell to the Brewers.

The 24-year-old shortstop started the scoring with a bang in this one, ambushing a first-pitch cutter from Brandon Sproat for a 405-foot (103.6 mph EV) grand slam to give the White Sox a 4-0 lead before an out had been recorded. He also added an RBI single off of Sproat in the second inning that made it a 6-2 ballgame. Montgomery finished the afternoon 2-for-3 plus a walk. His 2026 season is off to a fine start, hitting .300 (3-for-10) with a homer and five RBI.
Anthony Kay

CWS Relief Pitcher #18

Anthony Kay pitched decently in his first start for the White Sox on Sunday, giving up two runs on three hits over 4 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Brewers.

Kay also issued four free passes on the day while recording five strikeouts. All of the damage done against him came in the opening inning as Gary Sanchez belted a two-run homer. He settled in nicely afterwards though and kept the Brewers off the board despite the traffic on the basepaths. Kay got nine swings and misses on 92 pitches on the afternoon, registering a CSW of 27 percent. He’ll try again to earn his first victory when he squares off against the Blue Jays on Saturday.

CWS Starting Pitcher #59

Sean Burke yielded four runs — three earned — in four innings against the Brewers on Saturday.

Burke did get five strikeouts, even though only five of the 45 swings against him produced whiffs. He allowed seven hits, including a double from Bryce Turang that would have been a homer in 23 ballparks. He was handed the loss, so he’ll take a 0-1 record and a 6.75 ERA into his second start versus the Blue Jays.

CWS 3rd Baseman #5

Munetaka Murakami homered for the second time in two games Saturday against the Brewers.

Murakami’s homers have given the White Sox two of their three runs to date. Tonight’s was a 409-foot shot off Chad Patrick. He had a big chance to come through again in the fifth inning, but Aaron Ashby struck out him out as the tying run with two out and runners at second and third.

White Sox acquired C Boston Smith from the Nationals for INF Curtis Mead.

Smith was the Nationals’ sixth-round pick in 2025. The 23-year-old projects as roster fodder at this stage of his career, but it’s worth noting he’s also played third base and the outfield in college; giving him some (potentially) valuable versatility.
Korey Lee

CWS Catcher #26

White Sox sent C Korey Lee outright to Triple-A Charlotte.

Lee remains with Chicago as organizational catching depth after passing through waivers unclaimed earlier this week. The 27-year-old will remain stashed at Triple-A behind Edgar Quero and Reese McGuire while Kyle Teel (hamstring) is on the shelf.
