Royals purchased the contract of LHP Chris Dwyer from Triple-A Omaha.
Dwyer posted an ugly 6.97 ERA in 50 1/3 innings this past season at the Triple-A level, but the Royals wanted to protect the 24-year-old lefty from the Rule 5 Draft.

Royals optioned LHP Chris Dwyer to Triple-A Omaha.
Dwyer gave up three runs (two earned) over 1 2/3 innings in his lone appearance this spring. The 24-year-old southpaw had a 5.89 ERA between Double- and Triple-A last season while dealing with a thyroid condition. The Royals added him to the 40-man roster in November, so they clearly aren’t ready to give up on him yet.

Royals optioned LHP Chris Dwyer to Triple-A Omaha.
Dwyer had a cup of coffee with the Royals last September after he posted a 3.55 ERA and 112/72 K/BB ratio in 159 2/3 innings in Triple-A. Entering his age-26 season, he doesn’t throw as hard as he once did, so he now profiles more as a spot starter or a reliever.

Dwyer, a former highly-regarded prospect, posted a 4.01 ERA and 63/55 K/BB ratio over 92 innings with the Royals’ Triple-A affiliate last season. He turns 28 in April and will serve as organizational depth.

Minor league Chris Dwyer will be joining the Royals at spring training as a non-rostered invitee.
Dwyer has moved up fairly quickly through the Royals organization, landing in Double-A last year in only his second season of professional ball. The 22-year-old has amassed 128 strikeouts in 110.2 innings to go with a respectable 3.09 ERA. He is expected to start this season in Double-A or Triple-A.
