Rhys Hoskins went 2-for-2 with a double on Tuesday, propelling the Guardians to a 10-5 win over the Diamondbacks at Chase Field.
Hoskins will be officially added to Cleveland’s active roster prior to Thursday’s season-opener against the Mariners after making the club as a non-roster invitee this spring. The 33-year-old figures to see opportunities against left-handed pitching between first base and DH at the outset of the year.
  • CLE Starting Pitcher #77
Parker Messick recorded six strikeouts and was charged with four runs — three earned — over 4 2/3 innings on Tuesday in an exhibition start against the Diamondbacks.
Messick put together a strong performance this spring to break camp in Cleveland’s season-opening rotation and offers enough upside to warrant rostering in shallow mixed leagues as a low-risk flyer. The 25-year-old lefty doesn’t miss a ton of bats, but he boasts outstanding control and posted a strong 2.72 ERA — 3.06 xERA — and 38/6 K/BB ratio across 39 2/3 innings over seven starts as a rookie last year. He’s in line to take the ball on Sunday against the Mariners for his season debut.
  • CLE Catcher #27
Austin Hedges will have X-rays on Tuesday after leaving Monday’s game with a hand injury.
Hedges was hit on the right hand by a pitch. If he needs to on the IL, the Guardians could bring back Jonathan Rodriguez or Petey Halpin. They already have David Fry to use as their backup catcher.
  • CLE Right Fielder #24
Chase DeLauter hit two homers, walked and scored three runs in the Guardians’ 7-0 win over the Diamondbacks on Monday.
Putting a little exclamation point on his spring, DeLauter is now up to .459/.535/.838 in 43 plate appearances. He’s probably about as weak of a bet to remain healthy as any position player in the league, but from a performance standpoint, he’s looking like a strong Rookie of the Year candidate.
  • CLE Starting Pitcher #44
Facing his former team, Slade Cecconi tossed four scoreless innings in a victory over the Diamondbacks on Monday.
Cecconi, who had a 33% CSW in his 57-pitch outing tonight, closes out the spring with a 1.62 ERA and a 16/5 K/BB in 16 2/3 innings. He’ll take on the Mariners in Seattle on Sunday.
  • CLE Relief Pitcher #54
Joey Cantillo struck out six over four scoreless innings in earning a save Monday against the Diamonbdbacks.
Cantillo officially secured his rotation spot when the Guardians sent down Logan Allen, and he’ll make his season debut Sunday against the Mariners. He offers mixed-league upside, but he seems more like an AL-only guy initially.
  • CLE Starting Pitcher #32
Gavin Williams held the Reds to one run through five innings in the Guardians’ 8-2 victory Sunday.
An efficient Williams got 15 outs with 64 pitches today, never throwing more than 17 in an inning. He ends the spring 2-1 with a 4.58 ERA and a 19/2 K/BB in 17 2/3 innings, and he’ll make his first regular-season start Friday in Seattle. Last year, he was 1-0 with a 2.45 ERA in his two starts against the Mariners.
  • CLE Right Fielder #24
Chase DeLauter went 2-for-2 with a double, two RBI and a walk Sunday versus the Reds.
The 24-year-old DeLauter is sitting at .429/.500/.657 with a 4/5 K/BB in 40 plate appearances. He’s made eight of his nine starts in the field in right, so it looks like that’ll be his primary spot in the regular season. He’ll probably wind up seeing a fair amount of time against lefties, given the makeup of the rest of the Guardians’ roster. It would have made sense for the Guardians to keep Stuart Fairchild to supplement him versus southpaws, but another lefty, CJ Kayfus, seems poised to get that spot.
  • CLE Center Fielder #1
Angel Martinez hit his fourth spring homer Sunday against the Reds.
Martinez, one of the AL’s worst players in hitting .224/.269/.359 in 484 plate appearances and playing below average outfield defense last season, is going to make the Guardians and might be in line for quite a bit of time initially with George Valera on the IL. He’s hit .350/.395/.850 this spring, with an average EV up about seven mph from last year’s mark of 97.1 mph. It might be a good sign, but he’s still only an option in deep AL-only leagues right now.
  • CLE 1st Baseman #12
Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports that Rhys Hoskins has made the Guardians’ Opening Day roster.
The Guardians will have to add Hoskins to the 40-man roster, as he was signed as a non-roster invite this winter. The 33-year-old will make $1.5 million, and likely be in the lineup against left-handed pitching to open the 2026 season as a first baseman and designated hitter.
