The Marlins intend for their new ballpark to be pitcher-friendly, much like Dolphins Stadium.
''It’ll be a park where pitching will continue to win,’' Marlins president David Samson said. ''And I’ve told Carlos Delgado he’ll still be able to go yard.’' The Marlins are hopeful of moving in to the proposed retractable roof stadium in 2008.

Dontrelle Willis was recalled from Double-A Carolina to take Josh Beckett’s roster spot. Willis will start tonight.
Willis’ debut will come against the Rockies in Miami. The 21-year-old is a highly-regarded prospect. Hopefully the Marlins will be careful with this one.

Dontrelle Willis gave up two runs in eight innings Saturday for Double-A Carolina. He’s 4-0 with a 1.49 ERA this season.
The Marlins are giving some thought to bringing Willis up to the majors and starting him on Friday. It would be a bad move, but that just makes it more likely to happen. Willis is a very good prospect, but he’s probably not ready to be a quality starter just yet. Still, he would be worth taking a chance on in NL-only leagues, as he’s someone who could put up good results for a month or two until hitters adjust.

The Marlins are expected to renew the contracts of pitchers Josh Beckett and Dontrelle Willis and outfielder Miguel Cabrera this morning.
Willis and Cabrera will receive slight raises, Willis to $353,000 and Cabrera to $320,000. It is not known what Beckett was offered.

There had been some speculation that Dontrelle Willis could go to the bullpen when A.J. Burnett returns, but manager Jack McKeon squashed that.
''We’re not going to put Dontrelle in the bullpen. Not right now. No thoughts of that,’' McKeon said. Tommy Phelps will go back to a relief role when Burnett is ready.

The Marlins have pushed Dontrelle Willis’ next start back from Sunday to Tuesday.
Having six days between outings will give Dontrelle a chance to get in extra work on being more consistent with his delivery. He’ll miss the Devil Rays but face the Pirates.

Dontrelle Willis shut out the Reds for eight innings today to earn his career-high 15th win.
Willis had 14 wins in 27 starts as a rookie two years ago. He got his 15th victory in his 23rd start this season. Willis seems to be all the way back now after three straight disastrous outings last month. He gave up four hits -- all singles -- and walked two while throwing 113 pitches today.

Dontrelle Willis lost despite limiting the Giants to one run over eight innings tonight.
Randy Winn’s homer was the only run of the game. Willis gave up five hits, walked one and struck out six. He had struggled in three career starts against the Giants, but with no Barry Bonds, Moises Alou or Ray Durham, the team did little against him tonight.

Dontrelle Willis recorded his fifth shutout of the season tonight in the Marlins’ 6-0 win at San Diego.
Willis is the first pitcher to throw five shutouts in a season since A.J. Burnett in 2002. The last pitcher in either league to notch more than five shutouts was the Dodgers’ Tim Belcher in 1989. He had eight.

Dontelle Willis limited the Mets to an unearned run over eight innings to earn a victory on Thursday night.
It was a 1-1 game until Miguel Cabrera delivered a three-run double off Aaron Heilman in the bottom of the eighth. That gave Willis his first win since July 7, when he also defeated the Mets.
