Giants signed INF Drew Ellis to a minor league contract.
The 29-year-old infielder hasn’t appeared in the big leagues since taking 29 plate appearances with the Phillies back in 2023. He was off to a terrific start for the Lexington Legends in the independent Atlantic League, slashing .373/.467/.765 with five homers and 11 RBI in 60 plate appearances, which was enough for the Giants to take a chance on him. He’ll add infield depth in the upper minors.

This confirms a report from Mike Rodriguez. Rojas, 22, is slashing .306/.361/.484 with nine homers and 30 steals across 76 games in Double-A this year. The Phillies have yet to make it official, but Gelb hears that Cristian Pache could be headed to the injured list with a minor injury. Drew Ellis is also expected to join the Phillies’ roster to begin the second half. Look for official announcements soon.

Drew Ellis went 3-for-3 with two homers, two walks and four runs scored against the Nationals on Sunday.
Shame on Kyle Schwarber for stealing the spotlight on Ellis’s career day. The 27-year-old infielder was a career .141/.275/.207 hitter in 109 plate appearances as a major leaguer since debuting with the Diamondbacks in 2021. He’ll continue to see a fair amount of action with Alec Bohm and Darick Hall on the IL, though he doesn’t figure to have a role once those two return.
