Giants prospect Eddy Martinez-Esteve underwent surgery in November to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder and isn’t expected to play until late April.
Following a terrific career at Florida State, Martinez-Esteve was the Giants’ first pick in last year’s draft. He’ll probably be assigned to Single-A San Jose once healthy.
  • Double-A Connecticut’s Eddy Martinez-Esteve had surgery on his left shoulder and is expected to miss the rest of the season.
Martinez hurt his non-throwing shoulder on May 6 and hadn’t played since. The 22-year-old was hitting .272/.324/.446 in 92 at-bats before going down. He still should have a future as a major league left fielder or DH.
  • Mariners released OF Eddy Martinez-Esteve.
Esteve hadn’t played in a minor league game this year. He hit .269 with a .762 OPS last season at Triple-A.
  • Eddy Martinez-Esteve went 3-for-3 with a homer, a walk and a stolen base for Single-A San Jose on Monday.
Martinez-Esteve, who is probably the future in left field for the Giants, is batting .368/.470/.639 in 43 games.
  • Eddy Martinez-Esteve went 2-for-3 for the Rookie AZL Giants Friday in his first action in nearly a month.
Martinez-Esteve was batting just .239/.306/.291 in Double-A before the Giants decided to shut him down and give him additional time to recover from shoulder surgery. Injuries have really done a number on his stock the last couple of years.
  • Eddy Martinez-Esteve had four hits, including a double, and five RBI for Carolina of the PRWL on Saturday.
Martinez-Esteve ended up at .298/.387/.381 for Double-A Connecticut last season. It seems like a poor line for a 24-year-old corner outfielder in the Eastern League, but Connecticut is one of the toughest places to hit in the minors. The Giants can hope his power comes back in Triple-A next year. However, it’s probably not worth using a 40-man roster spot in order to protect him from the Rule 5 draft.
  • Eddy Martinez-Esteve went 5-for-6 with a home run, four doubles and six RBI yesterday for Single-A San Jose.
Martinez-Esteve, who was expected to be out until late April after November surgery to repair a torn labrum, is batting .382/.475/.647 in nine games in the California League.
  • Eddy Martinez-Esteve went 3-for-5 with a home run and five RBI yesterday for Single-A San Jose.
Martinez-Esteve, who could eventually replace Barry Bonds as the Giants’ left fielder, is batting .346/.430/.593 with eight homers in 21 games.
  • Eddy Martinez-Esteve went 2-for-4 with a homer and four RBI yesterday in his second game for Single-A Hagerstown.
Martinez-Esteve, a second-round pick in this year’s draft, was promoted after hitting .286/.405/.400 in 10 games for short-season Single-A Salem-Keiser. He already should be considered one of the Giants’ best non-pitching prospects.
  • Eddy Martinez-Esteve went 5-for-9 with a walk in a doubleheader for Double-A Connecticut on Saturday.
Martinez, limited to 92 at-bats last year by a shoulder injury, was off to a 1-for-15 start before his big day. The 23-year-old is still one of the Giants’ top position prospects. He could be the long-term replacement for Barry Bonds in left field.
