Eriq Swan worked three scoreless innings and struck out five in a start for Glendale of the AFL on Thursday.
The Dodgers made the 6-foot-6 Swan a fourth-round pick in 2023 even though he finished with ERAs of 7.62 and 6.49 in his last two seasons at Middle Tennessee State, and in his pro debut this year, he wound up with a 5.72 ERA in 28 1/3 innings over nine starts and four relief appearances in the low minors. Sending him to the AFL was probably more about getting him innings than expecting quality results, but he’s thus far excelled in two starts, allowing one run and amassing a 10/0 K/BB in six innings. He has a big arm capable of delivering high-90s fastballs, so his stock will take off if this keeps up.
