Yankees acquired OF Exicardo Cayones and RHP Diego Moreno from the Pirates for RHP A.J. Burnett and cash considerations.
Cayones is just 20 years old and owns a .272/.372/.380 batting line over 558 plate appearances in the lower levels of the minor leagues. This includes a .228 batting average to go along with zero homers over 114 at-bats between rookie ball and Single-A last year. He wasn’t listed among Pittsburgh’s top 30 prospects by Baseball America and is unlikely to hit enough to ever make an impact in the major leagues.
  • The Angels are set to acquire outfielder Exicardo Cayones and left-handed reliever Kramer Sneed from the Yankees in the Vernon Wells deal.
Neither player is considered a top prospect, as the main objective for the Angels was to get the Yankees to cover some of Wells’ remaining contract. Cayones, who came over to the Yankees in the A.J. Burnett deal, batted .228/.374/.291 in Low-A ball last season. Sneed, 24, posted a 5.37 ERA in 63 2/3 innings in High-A in 2012.
  • Angels acquired OF Exicardo Cayones and LHP Kramer Sneed from the Yankees for OF Vernon Wells and cash considerations.
Cayones, 21, hit .228/.374/.291 in Low-A ball last season after coming over from the Pirates in the A.J. Burnett deal. He’s not much of a prospect, as the Angels were just happy to get out from under some of the $42 million on Wells’ contract.
