Nationals selected outfielder Garrett Guzman in the second round of the Rule 5 draft.
The third player lost by Minnesota. Guzman, a left-handed-hitting 24-year-old, finished at .312/.359/.453 for Double-A New Britain last season. The Twins declined to protect him even though they figured they were going to lose Torii Hunter and Rondell White, showing just how much faith they had in him. A line-drive hitter with a fine track record against left-handers, he could have a career as a reserve.

Nationals acquired outfielder Garrett Guzman from the Twins for a player to be named.
The Twins obviously figured Guzman was expendable with Carlos Gomez around. The 25-year-old hit .312/.359/.453 for Double-A New Britain last season, causing the Nationals to take him in the Rule-5 draft in December. He never figured to win a spot on Washington’s roster, but that Nats will keep him anyway and stick him in Triple-A He could have a career as a bench player.
