The Athletics announced 31 non-roster invites spring training, including prized shortstop prospect Leo De Vries plus starting pitchers Gage Jump and Jamie Arnold.
De Vries was the centerpiece the Padres sent back to the A’s for Mason Miller last season and is considered one of the best prospects in baseball. It’s customary for top prospects to get an invite to major league spring training, especially when they’ve already reached Double-A like De Vries did last season. It’s unlikely the 19-year-old is ready to compete for a major league roster spot yet though. Of this trio, Jump has the best chance to reach the majors in 2026 after breaking out with a 3.28 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, and 131/34 K/BB ratio across 112 2/3 innings between High-A and Double-A last season.
  • ATH Starting Pitcher
Athletics signed first-round pick LHP Jamie Arnold.
It’s a full-slot deal for Arnold, who receives a $5.98 million signing bonus as the 11th overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft, per MLB Pipeline’s Jim Callis. The 21-year-old southpaw boasts an upper-90’s fastball and devastating sweeper, which give him a shot at fantasy-relevance once he reaches the big leagues, which could be as early as 2026.
  • ATH Starting Pitcher
Athletics selected selected Florida State LHP Jamie Arnold with the No. 11 selection of the 2025 MLB Draft.
Arnold was considered to be the favorite to be the first pick of the draft by many coming into the year, but he didn’t quite take the step forward many expected in 2025 with a 2.98 ERA and 119/27 K/BB over his 15 starts and 84 2/3 innings with the Seminoles. When he’s at his best, he’ll touch 97 mph with a fastball that offers some late life, but the out pitch here is a slider that gets double-plus -- or 70 on the 20-80 scale -- grades in the scouting community. He also shows a solid if unspectacular change, and the ability to locate those pitches for strikes. Arnold should be able to move quickly through the system, and he offers more upside in his arm than your typical southpaw.
