Giants signed RHP Jamie Callahan to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Callahan was limited to just seven minor league appearances in 2018 before having season-ending shoulder surgery in June. He showed some promise previously, but we’ll have to see how he bounces back from surgery.

Jamie Callahan has elected free agency.
The right-hander underwent season-ending in mid-June after landing on the disabled list in April. He appeared in just seven games at Triple-A Las Vegas, posting an underwhelming 9.72 ERA and 2.16 WHIP over 8 1/3 innings. He’ll look to secure a minor league pact elsewhere this winter.

Mets purchased the contract of RHP Jamie Callahan from Triple-A Las Vegas.
Acquired from the Red Sox in the Addison Reed trade, Callahan holds a 2.94 ERA and 66/17 K/BB ratio over 52 relief innings between Double- and Triple-A this season. The 23-year-old will be making his major league debut when he gets into a game.

Mets acquired RHPs Jamie Callahan, Gerson Bautista, and Stephen Nogosek from the Red Sox for RHP Addison Reed.
While the Mets didn’t land an elite prospect in return, they were able to bring in some much-needed relief depth in their system. Callahan, 22, is the closest to making an impact. He’s posted a 3.21 ERA and 56/13 K/BB ratio over 42 innings this season between Double- and Triple-A. He’ll have to be added to the 40-man roster this winter to be protected from the Rule 5 Draft.

Mets prospect right-hander Jamie Callahan will require shoulder surgery.
The news was delivered by Triple-A Las Vegas manager Tony DeFrancesco. Callahan allowed 10 runs (nine earned) over 8 1/3 innings before hitting the disabled list in late April. The 23-year-old was acquired from the Red Sox in the Addison Reed deal last summer and appeared in nine games with the Mets down the stretch. Now he’s facing an extended absence.
