Guzman

Guzman was released by the Diamondbacks in early June and has latched on with the Royals for the remainder of the 2022 campaign. The 23-year-old infielder was hitting .292/.346/.500 with one homer and one steal in eight games for Double-A Amarillo this season prior to his release. He’ll serve as organization infield depth for Kansas City.

Guzman, 23, slashed .255/.312/.401 with six home runs and 11 stolen bases in 66 games between the High-A and Double-A affiliates of the Royals in 2021. He’ll be minor league depth for the D-backs in 2022 whenever the season gets underway.

Guzman was non-tendered by the Royals earlier this month but is back in the organization. He has not appeared in a major league game.

Guzman has yet to appear in the majors and isn’t arbitration-eligible. He could be back on a minor league deal.

Guzman was only up for a few days and didn’t see any action. He’ll remain with the club on their taxi squad.

Guzman was added to the 40-man roster last fall after batting .253/.296/.373 with seven homers and 15 steals over 121 games with Class A Lexington last season. This is quite a promotion for the 21-year-old given that he has work to do offensively, but he’s a skilled defender and should be useful depth for Kansas City during his first stint in the majors.

Guzman, 21, is one of the better fielding prospects in the Kansas City system, but he hit just .253/.296/.373 with seven homers at the Sally League in 2019. He projects as a utility infielder at the highest level.
