Cruz augments the Phillies’ organizational relief depth heading into the 2023 season. He’ll likely open the year at Triple-A Lehigh Valley, but could easily wind up in Philadelphia at some point.

Cruz served as organizational relief depth this season for the Braves, making seven relief appearances at the major-league level. The 27-year-old right-hander has made eight relief appearances in the majors since the 2020 campaign. He should be able to find a new home as organizational relief depth.

Cruz made his MLB debut with St. Louis during the condensed 2020 campaign before spending all of 2021 at Triple-A Memphis. The 26-year-old reliever is now free to find a new organization.

Cruz cleared waivers after being designated for assignment. He’ll remain in the organization as relief depth.
