Blue Jays promoted prospect right-hander John Stilson to Triple-A Buffalo.
The Blue Jays are currently using Ramon Ortiz in their starting rotation, so it’s possible that Stilson could eventually become an option if he can prove he’s healthy. The 22-year-old spent the first month of the season on the minor league DL, but earned the promotion by posting a 3.86 ERA in two appearances at Double-A New Hampshire. Given his history of shoulder injuries, Stilson may ultimately have to settle for a bullpen role.

Blue Jays pitching prospect John Stilson recently underwent surgery to repair a labrum tear in his right shoulder.
He’ll need 6-8 months of rehab, so there’s a chance he could get a late start to next season. Ranked prior to the season by Baseball America as Toronto’s No. 21 prospect, Stilson holds a 3.30 ERA and 176/75 K/BB ratio over his first 188 professional innings.

Pirates signed RHP John Stilson to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
The 27-year-old hurler spent the 2017 season in the Blue Jays’ organization where he posted a 3.19 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 51/22 K/BB ratio over 53 2/3 innings. There’s a chance he could compete for a spot in the Bucs’ bullpen with a strong showing in the spring.
