Barbato will provide a fresh arm for the Yankees’ overworked bullpen. He has allowed 10 hits, four walks, and eight earned runs in 13 innings this season with New York.

Barbato was recalled on Thursday to provide a fresh arm in a depleted bullpen, and now he’ll head back to Triple-A. In 13 innings with the big league club, the 24-year-old hurler owns a disappointing 7.62 ERA and 1.39 WHIP.

Barbato saw 13 innings of work with the Yankees last season. He struggled in that space, surrendering 11 runs on 13 hits while walking five. The 24-year-old right-hander could see a call back up to the bigs if the Bombers find themselves in need of an extra bullpen arm during the 2017 campaign.

Barbato allowed two runs on five hits and two walks over four innings in his first start this season with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The 24-year-old right-hander could draw interest on waivers from teams needing long-relief help.

Barbato was just acquired from the Yankees last week and will replace Antonio Bastardo (quad) in the Pirates’ bullpen. The 24-year-old had a rough 7.62 ERA in 13 appearances with the Yankees last season and figures to operate in middle relief.

Barbato was designated for assignment by the Yankees late last week. The 24-year-old began the year as a starter in Triple-A, but he has extensive experience out of the bullpen. It’s unclear what his role will be with his new team.

His roster spot will be absorbed by Lithuanian right-hander Dovydas Neverauskas. Acquired from the Yankees in a trade two months ago, Barbato has struggled to a 4.84 ERA over 15 relief appearances for the Bucs. He’ll be back at some point.
