Humphreys

Humphreys has shuttled between the Giants, Indians and now Padres this offseason. The 24-year-old righty was designated for assignment after the Giants signed lefty Jose Alvarez. He hasn’t appeared in the major leagues yet and will serve as organizational depth for in San Diego.

The Giants lost Humphreys to the Indians via waivers back in November and now he’s headed back in the opposite direction. He’s rotation depth for San Francisco.

This move frees up a 40-man roster spot for outfielder Harold Ramirez, who was claimed off waivers from the Marlins on Wednesday. Humphreys, 24, has yet to appear in a game at the major league level.

Humphreys was designated for assignment by the Giants last week. The 24-year-old has yet to appear in a major league game but owns a promising 2.60 ERA with 177 strikeouts in 169 2/3 career minor league innings.

Humphreys -- who was acquired from the Mets in the Billy Hamilton trade -- didn’t make it to the big leagues in 2020 and finished the season on the restricted list while dealing with a family issue. The 24-year-old missed the entire 2018 season and most of 2019 as well while recovering from Tommy John surgery, but posted a 0.77 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 8/4 K/BB ratio over 11 2/3 innings in the Arizona Fall League following the 2019 campaign. He’s an intriguing arm that could soon be on the open market.

Humphreys is dealing with a family issue. The move frees up a 40-man roster spot for Luis Alexander Basabe. Humpreys was acquired from the Mets a week ago for Billy Hamilton.

Humphreys had been designated for assignment. He hasn’t pitched above A-ball and doesn’t figure to factor into the Giants’ 2020 plans.

Humphreys was recently designated for assignment, while Hamilton has been at the Giants’ alternate training site. If he’s added to the active roster, Hamilton will give the Mets a pinch runner and defensive replacement option.

The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Ryan Cordell. Humphreys has missed most of the last two years due to injury and hasn’t pitched above A-ball.

Humphreys has missed most of the last two seasons while recovering from Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery, but the Mets wanted to protect him from selection in next month’s Rule 5 Draft. The 23-year-old right-hander had a lot of early success before blowing out his UCL.
