Centeno hasn’t appeared in the big leagues since the 2019 campaign and is merely emergency organizational depth entering his age-36 campaign.

Adams isn’t yet ready to pitch after flexor tendon surgery last August. Once healthy, he could be capable of helping the Diamondbacks out of the pen. He had a 4.10 ERA for the Padres in 2021 before missing almost all of last year.

Centeno is a career .223/.278/.323 hitter in 373 plate appearances for various clubs. The 32-year-old backstop provides organizational depth, but will likely spend most -- if not all -- of his time with Triple-A Reno.

He will give the Tigers some catching depth at their alternate site. Centeno hasn’t played in the majors since 2019.

Centeno was battling for a spot to back up Christian Vazquez, but he’ll instead open the delayed 2020 season at Triple-A as minor league depth behind the plate.

Centeno elected free agency instead of accepting an outright assignment to Triple-A Pawtucket after he was designated for assignment in November. The backstop hit .248/.321/.350 over 81 games at the Triple-A level last year, and spent seven games with Boston after a September call-up. He’ll likely spend most -- if not all -- of the 2020 season in the International League again.

Centeno will seek a new deal on the open market rather than accept an outright assignment from the Red Sox. The 29-year-old appeared in seven games as a September call-up after batting .248/.321/.350 over 81 games in Triple-A this year.

Centeno gets the nod as the Red Sox’s third catcher this month. The veteran backstop, best known for his arm, hit .248/.321/.350 for Pawtucket.

Centeno appeared in just 10 games at the major league level in 2018, batting .162/.184/.270 over 38 plate appearances with the Rangers. The 28-year-old will be nothing more than minor league catching depth for the Red Sox.

This will be the first time in the big leagues for the 23-year-old backstop. He’s had a nice season between Double-A and Triple-A, hitting .301/.339/.373 with 31 RBI and a 12/29 BB/K ratio in 236 at-bats. He’ll provide additional depth behind the plate for the remainder of the season.
