Kosuke Fukudome is batting just .143/.200/.143 through his first 15 plate appearances with the White Sox.
Fukdome’s only two hits have been singles and he’s drawn just one walk against four strikeouts. The 34-year-old outfielder won’t carry any fantasy value this year.
  • INT Outfield
Dayan Viciedo is not in Wednesday’s lineup against the Athletics.
Just a routine day off for Viciedo, who is hitting just .180 (9-for-50) with two homers and a 13/1 K/BB ratio. Kosuke Fukudome will start in right field Wednesday and bat seventh.
  • CWS Designated Hitter
Paul Konerko is not in the lineup for the second game of Monday’s doubleheader against the Indians.
Konerko went 1-for-4 with a run scored in the first game. Adam Dunn will start at first base in the nightcap while Dayan Viciedo serves as the DH and Kosuke Fukudome plays left.
  • INT Outfield
Dayan Viciedo (elbow) is not in the starting lineup for the first half of Monday’s doubleheader.
Viciedo was hit on the right elbow by a pitch on Sunday afternoon. X-rays came back negative, but the 23-year-old Cuban appeared to be in a good amount of pain as he headed to the clubhouse. Kosuke Fukudome is playing left field Monday afternoon agaisnt the Indians.
  • INT Outfield
White Sox manager Robin Ventura said Monday that it’s possible Dayan Viciedo could play left field this season.
The White Sox appear committed to playing Alejandro De Aza in center field, so this move would allow Alex Rios to play his preferred position in right field. However, there would bit a bit of a learning curve for Viciedo, as he has never played a professional game in left field. The White Sox recently added Kosuke Fukudome, so they could also mix-and-match on occasion.
  • KC Outfield #15
Alex Rios is not in Wednesday’s lineup against the Indians.
We’re assuming it’s just a routine day off for Rios, who is 2-for-13 with a homer so far this season. Kosuke Fukudome will make the start in right field and bat seventh against right-hander Justin Masterson.
  • INT Outfield
Dayan Viciedo is not in Wednesday’s lineup.
We’re assuming he’s just getting the day off. Kosuke Fukudome will make the start in left field and bat seventh against Orioles’ right-hander Tommy Hunter.

White Sox signed OF Kosuke Fukudome to a one-year, $1 million contract with a $3.5 million club option for 2013.
A nice little pickup at the 11th hour before spring training. Fukudome will make just $500,000 this season while the option includes a $500,000 buyout, so it’s a worthwhile gamble. The 34-year-old batted .262/.342/.370 with eight home runs, 35 RBI and a .712 OPS between the Cubs and Indians last season and should do just fine in a semi-regular role. However, his addition will likely cut into Alejandro De Aza’s ability to make an impact.

According to John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer, the agent for Kosuke Fukudome has called the Reds.
Reds general manager Walt Jocketty has acknowledged interest in Cody Ross, Rick Ankiel and Ryan Ludwick, so they are certainly in the market for outfielders, but it’s not clear if they are legitimately considering Fukudome. The 34-year-old batted .262/.342/.370 with eight home runs, 35 RBI and a .712 OPS over 603 plate appearances between the Cubs and Indians last season. He owns a .260/.361/.399 batting line in the big leagues.

Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com reports that the Mets are “diligently monitoring” the market for left-handed hitting outfielders.
Crasnick names Rick Ankiel, Johnny Damon, Kosuke Fukudome, Raul Ibanez and Juan Pierre in his report, although it’s not clear if they are actually talking to those specific players. For what it’s worth, the Mets have at least been linked to Ankiel in the past. There’s a surplus among free agent hitters right now, so with spring training rapidly approaching, there’s a good chance the Mets will get someone at a bargain rate.
