Guardians signed RHP Luis Frias to a minor league contract with an invite to big league Spring Training.
The 26-year-old pitched just 9 2/3 innings for the Diamondbacks and Blue Jays in 2024, posting a 13.97 ERA; however, he was much more effective with Arizona in 2023. That season, he had a 4.06 ERA in 31 innings with a 1.35 ERA during the 2023 postseason. Frias did post a 0.96 ERA and 28 percent strikeout rate in nine Triple-A appearances for Toronto after being claimed on waivers, so perhaps Cleveland can help him fix whatever was holding him back in 2024.

Blue Jays sent LHP Génesis Cabrera and RHP Luis Frias outright to Triple-A Buffalo.
Both Cabrera and Frias will test the free agent waters after being removed from Toronto’s 40-man roster. Cabrera’s tenure with the Blue Jays is over after posting a respectable 3.34 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 70/35 K/BB ratio across 86 1/3/ innings (98 appearances) over the last two years. The 28-year-old southpaw was set to be arbitration-eligible this offseason for the first time in his career.
  • TOR Relief Pitcher #63
Blue Jays optioned RHP Luis Frías to Triple-A Buffalo.
Frías, called up Sept. 6, was tagged for eight runs over 3 1/3 innings in his four appearances for the Blue Jays.
  • TOR Relief Pitcher #65
Blue Jays recalled RHP Luis Frías from Triple-A Buffalo.
Frías, claimed off waivers from the Diamondbacks last month, had allowed only an unearned run over 8 1/3 innings since joining Buffalo. The 26-year-old reliever has a 6.55 ERA and a 50/43 K/BB in 57 2/3 innings as a major leaguer over the last four years.

Blue Jays claimed RHP Luis Frias off of waivers from the Diamondbacks.
The 26-year-old hurler was then optioned to Triple-A Buffalo. Prior to being designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks, the 26-year-old right-hander posted a 9.95 ERA, 2.37 WHIP and a 7/4 K/BB ratio over 6 1/3 innings in seven appearances at the big-league level.
  • ARI Relief Pitcher #65
Diamondbacks designated RHP Luis Frías for assignment.
Frías loses his spot on Arizona’s 40-man roster with the club claiming backstop Andrew Knizner off waivers from the Rangers. The 26-year-old righty has made just seven relief appearances this season for the Diamondbacks.
  • ARI Relief Pitcher #65
Diamondbacks activated RHP Luis Frías from the 15-day injured list; optioned him to Triple-A Reno.
Frías will remain stationed in the minors as extra organizational relief depth. The 26-year-old righty has been on the shelf since mod-April recovering from right shoulder inflammation.
  • ARI Relief Pitcher #65
Diamondbacks placed RHP Luis Frias on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation.
The 25-year-old hurler had been optioned to Triple-A Reno at the end of spring training, but that option has now been rescinded and he has been placed on the injured list instead with shoulder troubles. It wouldn’t be surprising to see him ultimately moved to the 60-day IL to create flexibility on the 40-man roster. No word yet on how long he’ll be sidelined for.

Diamondbacks optioned RHP Luis Frías to Triple-A Reno.
Frías made seven appearances so far this season with Arizona, but he didn’t produce well enough to stay on the 40-man roster. The 25-year-old right-hander has a 9.95 ERA and has allowed seven earned runs on 11 hits while striking out just seven batters in 6 1/3 innings.

Diamondbacks recalled RHP Luis Frías from Triple-A Reno.
The 25-year-old right-hander has made 16 appearances out of the Diamondbacks’ bullpen this season — registering a 5.71 ERA, 1.96 WHIP and a 16/13 K/BB ratio over 17 1/3 innings. He’ll add depth in the middle innings during the month of September.
