Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports that the Marlins have narrowed their managerial search to four final candidates: Astros bench coach Joe Espada, Rays bench coach Matt Quatraro and Cardinals bench coach Skip Schumaker.
Heyman adds that the Marlins are expected to make a final decision soon. Craig Mish of SportsGrid reports that the Marlins have also scheduled a second interview with former Mets manager Luis Rojas, who seems like the “mystery” fourth candidate in Heyman’s reporting. It would appear that there could be a new skipper in Miami before the Fall Classic kicks off later this week.

Andy Martino of SNY.tv reports that Astros bench coach Joe Espada “is definitely on” the Mets’ list of managerial candidates.
It’s no surprise, as Espada worked with new general manager Billy Eppler with the Yankees and interviewed for the Angels’ manager job which went to Brad Ausmus when Eppler was with the club. Espada has interviewed for multiple managerial posts over the last couple years.

Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports that Twins assistant general manager Daniel Adler is not a candidate for a front office job with the Mets.
The Mets’ reportedly asked permission to speak with Adler last week, but he wants to stay with the Twins, instead. He’s the latest in a growing list of executives who have either turned down an opportunity to come to the Mets or were denied permission to interview by their respective teams. We know that Red Sox assistant general manager Raquel Ferreira is a candidate and there are surely others who aren’t publicly known just yet.

Andy Martino of SNY reports that the Mets have discussed Rays vice president of player development and international scouting Carlos Rodriguez and Brewers vice president of baseball operations Matt Kleine to fill their general manager vacancy.
Martino adds that the Mets are hesitant to request permission to interview those candidates as they’ve already been turned down in their recent efforts to interview other members of those front offices. Rodriguez has been with the Rays for the last 11 seasons and has been their head of player development and international scouting for the last two seasons. Kleine has served in his current role as vice president of baseball operations for the last four seasons.

According to the New York Post, the Mets have been denied permission to interview Blue Jays president and CEO Mark Shapiro for their president of baseball operations vacancy.
Another swing and a miss for the Mets. Shapiro, who just inked a five-year extension with the Blue Jays earlier this year, has built a burgeoning contender in Toronto and won’t be going anywhere. According to multiple reports, Brewers general manager Matt Arnold, Dodgers assistant general manager Brandon Gomes and Cardinals general manager Mike Girsch are also out of the picture after the Mets expressed interest in each potential candidate, but were rebuffed. The saga continues.

Brewers GM Matt Arnold has withdrawn his name from consideration for the Mets’ president of baseball operations job, per MLB.com’s Adam McCalvy.
Michael Mayer of Metsmerized reported less than an hour ago that the Brewers had granted the Mets permission to interview Arnold, but we can now strike yet another well-respected candidate from the list. Multiple outlets had been recently calling Arnold a favorite for the gig. It’s unclear where Mets owner Steve Cohen and club president Sandy Alderson might turn next in the ongoing search.

According to Michael Mayer of Metsmerized, the Mets have been given permission to talk to Brewers general manager Matt Arnold.
If you haven’t been tracking this story, the talks will be about the Mets’ president of baseball operations gig, for which Arnold has been called a recent favorite amid sometimes conflicting reports. Mayer is hearing that “there’s a belief” the Brewers are going to want player compensation in return if the Mets were to hire Arnold even though the potential new job in Queens would technically represent a promotion.

Jon Heyman of MLB Network confirms that the Mets have yet to interview Brewers general manager Matt Arnold for their president of baseball operations opening.
Mike Puma of the New York Post tweeted Tuesday that Arnold was the favorite for the job and that the Mets might have even made an offer already, but followup reports from several other outlets suggest that there’s been little to no contact and that New York is unlikely to receive permission to talk to him. “To refresh,” writes SNY’s Andy Martino on Wednesday, the “Brewers are under no obligation to grant permission for a promotion” and the “Mets have no idea if they even want to hire him yet.” This saga continues.

Mike Puma of the New York Post writes that Brewers general manager Matt Arnold appears to be the favorite for the Mets president of baseball operations job.
Puma hears that there’s been contact and the Mets might have even made an offer. The team initially hoped to get an interview with Brewers president David Stearns, but they might end up getting the next best thing. Arnold has extensive experience in various roles in baseball operations and was promoted to general manager just one year ago. The Mets have have some high-profile misses during their search, but this would be a quality hire if it happens.

Andy Martino of SNY.tv reports that the Mets have yet to receive permission to speak with Brewers general manager Matt Arnold about their president of baseball operations job.
This is quite different from the information being reported by Mike Puma of the New York Post, who says that the Mets have been in touch with Arnold and might have already made an offer. Puma also indicates that Arnold is the favorite for the job, which would be weird if the Mets haven’t talked to him. This would represent a promotion for Arnold, so it’s hard to imagine the Brewers would get in his way. Either way, there should be some clarity on the situation before long.
