In his first conference call as Washington’s GM, Jim Bowden said he intends to keep Frank Robinson as manager and that he hopes to bring in a starting shortstop.
It doesn’t look like Maicer Izturis is going to have a starting job in next year’s infield. Shortstops the team could look at include Barry Larkin, Royce Clayton, Rich Aurilia and Deivi Cruz.

Maicer Izturis left Triple-A Edmonton yesterday to be with his wife, who is set to give birth.
Izturis is expected back on Monday. Cesar’s little brother is batting .337/.437/.404 in 104 AB for Edmonton this season.

Maicer Izturis homered and drove in three as the Angels defeated the Yankees 7-4 on Friday.
He also singled twice and stole a base while scoring twice. With the way Izturis is playing, the Angels may not mind if Dallas McPherson isn’t ready to return from the DL right away. The switch-hitting infielder is hitting .324 with nine doubles, two homers, 17 RBI, and six steals since the start of June. He’s still probably not worth using in shallower mixed leagues, but those in deeper formats can consider Izturis while he’s playing so well.

Maicer Izturis left Sunday’s game after one inning with left hamstring tightness.
It’s the same hamstring that had Izturis on the DL earlier this season. Robb Quinlan took over at third base. If Izturis returns to the DL, the Angels will activate Dallas McPherson and give him time at third base.
  • TOR 2nd Baseman #81
Maicer Izturis is back at third base on Tuesday after missing Monday’s game with left hamstring tightness.
He’s batting leadoff in place of Chone Figgins, who is out of the lineup.

Maicer Izturis didn’t play Monday after leaving Sunday’s game with left hamstring tightness.
Izturis, who was hurt during Sunday’s game, is expected back later this week. Robb Quinlan took over at third base tonight and went 2-for-4 with a homer.
  • TOR 2nd Baseman #81
Angels activated infielder Maicer Izturis from the 15-day disabled list.
Izturis might get enough at-bats as a utilityman to be of some use in deep AL-only leagues. The Angels could use him at second against left-handers.

Maicer Izturis (hamstring) could be activated from the disabled list on Friday.
Izturis has been playing well on his rehab assignment. He’ll receive some starts at second base against left-handers after returning.
  • TOR 2nd Baseman #81
Maicer Izturis (hamstring) is scheduled to begin a minor league rehab assignment Monday at Triple-A.
Izturis, who has been out since April 24, was originally expected to begin rehabbing Friday. He could return from the disabled list by the end of the week.

Maicer Izturis tripled, doubled twice and walked for Triple-A Salt Lake on Saturday.
Izturis, who has been out since April 23 with a hamstring injury, is 9-for-22 on his rehab assignment. He should rejoin the Angels next week.
