Raya was added to Minnesota’s 40-man roster last November after posting a nearly 25 percent strikeout rate between Double-A Wichita and Triple-A St. Paul. The 22-year-old righty was never a threat to make the club’s season-opening rotation, but the injury figures to delay his start to the minor-league season.

The move is now official. Raya checks in as Minnesota’s fifth-ranked prospect, according to MLB Pipeline, after wrapping up last season with a near-25 percent strikeout rate across 25 starts between Double-A Wichita and Triple-A St. Paul.

Raya ranks fifth in MLB.com’s list of the Twins’ top prospects. The right-hander registered a 4.05 ERA and 103/44 K/BB across 25 starts; the final one in Triple-A and the previous 24 in Double-A. He’ll likely begin the year in St. Paul with a solid chance of making appearances for Minnesota over the summer.
