Matt Lawson has retired from baseball.
The Indians acquired Lawson this past offseason from the Mariners in exchange for left-hander Aaron Laffey. Lawson, a 25-year-old infielder, posted a rough .705 OPS in 30 games at Double-A this year before calling it quits on Tuesday. No reason was given for his decision.

Indians acquired INF Matt Lawson and cash considerations from the Mariners for LHP Aaron Laffey.
The M’s acquired Lawson as a throw-in to last year’s Cliff Lee deal with Texas. The 25-year-old can play a variety of positions, but he has a mediocre .283/.352/.407 career minor league batting line and probably won’t ever be a high-impact guy at the major league level.

Second baseman Matt Lawson was traded from Texas to Seattle in a six-player deal.
Lawson, 24, was hitting .277/.371/.438 for Double-A Frisco. It’s actually a breakthrough for him, giving that he posted OPSs of 675 in the Midwest League and 768 in the California League the previous two years. He lacks the versatility to contribute as a utilityman and we doubt he’ll make it as a regular second baseman, but the Mariners must see something in him.
