Rays signed 3B Matt Mangini to a minor league contract.
He’ll get an invite to spring training. The former supplemental round pick will be around merely for organizational depth.

Reds signed 3B Matt Mangini to a minor league contract.
Mangini was released by the Rays in August and finished last season with the Diamondbacks’ Triple-A affiliate. He hasn’t appeared in the majors since 2010 and is merely organizational depth.

Mariners selected Oklahoma State third baseman Matt Mangini with the 52nd pick in the draft.
Mangini entered the year as a probable first-rounder, but he didn’t show the kind of power hoped for. A solid defensive third baseman with a line drive swing, he was a nice choice in the 50s for Seattle. If the power comes, he could prove to be a steal.

Matt Mangini went 2-for-3 with his first professional home run and two walks Monday for SS Single-A Everett.
Mangini, the 52nd overall selection in this year’s draft out of Oklahoma State, is batting .278/.381/.444 through 10 games. He might be Adrian Beltre’s replacement in Seattle someday.

2007 supplemental first-round pick Matt Mangini went 5-for-5 for Single-A High Desert on Sunday.
Mangini is 12-for-38 this month after finishing April with a .238 average. Overall, he’s hitting .263/.383/.407. He strikes out an awful lot for someone with modest power (38 K’s in 35 games this season), so he’s not exactly on the fast track.

Mariners purchased the contract of INF Matt Mangini from Triple-A Tacoma.
Mangini, 24, batted .313/.352/.521 with 18 homers and 63 RBI with Triple-A Tacoma this season. It was a nice season for him, especially in the power department, but his numbers were likely inflated in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League. The former 2007 supplemental first-round supplemental pick has yet to develop much in the way of plate discipline, so temper the enthusiasm.

Mariners activated INF Matt Mangini from the disabled list; optioned him to Triple-A Tacoma.
Mangini has been sidelined for about three weeks by a strained right quad. Now healthy, he will act as organizational infield depth for the Mariners.

Mariners placed INF Matt Mangini on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 22, with a strained right quad.
Mangini was limited to just 12 at-bats this spring after aggravating a quad injury from last season. He’ll likely report to Triple-A Tacoma once he’s back to full health.

    Mariners released INF Matt Mangini.
He was cleared to make room for Tuesday’s starter Anthony Vasquez on the 40-man roster. Mangini, 25, is batting .336/.399/.409 with two homers, 41 RBI and an .809 OPS over 259 plate appearances with Triple-A Tacoma this season. He hasn’t played since the end of July due to a personal issue. The 2007 supplemental first-round pick didn’t develop as the Mariners hoped, but he shouldn’t have a problem finding a new home.
