Watson

Watson was batting .313/.403/.516 for Sacramento, but he hasn’t hit in the majors yet. He’ll serve as a reserve while Nick Swisher is out.

Watson will be one of the A’s September callups. He went 0-for-3 in his only appearance while Nick Swisher was out.

Watson will get some playing time with Mark Kotsay out, but it’s unlikely he’ll receive enough at-bats to give him any value in AL-only leagues.

Watson was 4-for-21 before being sent down last month. Nick Swisher is warming up and Bobby Kielty still has the best OPS on the A’s, so we’ll see if Watson has a more significant role this time. He could get some starts over Kielty against right-handers.

He then went 2-for-3 in the second game. Watson will eventually get a long look as a reserve outfielder. Injuries may give him another opportunity this year.

That was quick. Watson started in left field the first three days after he was called up last week, but the organization obviously didn’t like what it saw while he went 1-for-11. Bobby Kielty may resume getting playing time against right-handers.

Watson was 4-for-21 with three RBI. He’ll get a real opportunity to make it as a fourth outfielder someday.

Watson, who turns 25 in November, hit .295/.366/.504 with 11 HR, 55 RBI in 74 games for Triple-A Norfolk this year. He doesn’t project as a regular, but the Mets should have kept him on their 40-man roster. He could compete for a spot as a reserve in spring training.

Watson is worthy of a roster spot as a backup outfielder and should get a few starts in left or right during the final 2 1/2 weeks. That won’t make him worth adding in NL-only leagues.
