Mariners closer David Aardsma underwent surgery on his hip in late winter and barely got off his crutches during spring training, but he’s made significant progress in the past couple of weeks and appears likely to reach his goal of returning sometime in late April.
Shannon Drayer of ESPN 710 AM in Seattle reports that Aardsma threw a “lights out” bullpen session on Sunday morning, firing 30 pitches in all and experiencing no problems with his surgically-repaired hip.
Brandon League has been filling in at the back end of the Mariners’ bullpen since the regular season began. He earned his first save of the year on Saturday with a scoreless ninth inning against the A’s.
