Blair Kerkhoff of The Kansas City Star reported earlier this week that Royals outfielder Alex Gordon underwent surgery on his right wrist. Specifically, the procedure was a wrist extensor retinaculum repair. The Royals expect him to be ready with plenty of time to spare before Opening Day in April.

Gordon had missed a few games in mid-July due to wrist discomfort, and told the team that he was still having discomfort during his off-season workouts prior to Christmas.

Gordon, 30, helped lead the Royals to the World Series after batting a productive .266/.351/.432 with 19 home runs and 74 RBI in 643 plate appearances during the regular season. During the playoffs, he hit .204/.317/.370 with one home run and 11 RBI in 63 plate appearances.
