In the latest stop of his rehabilitation tour, Alex Rodriguez entered the belly of the beast and met with an old nemesis, The Post has learned.
Earlier this past week, the Yankees’ disgraced, returning slugger convened with commissioner-elect Rob Manfred at Major League Baseball’s midtown Manhattan headquarters, multiple sources confirmed. In an attempted signal of goodwill, A-Rod came unaccompanied by any Players Association representatives or personal attorneys.
And goodwill, according to one source, was A-Rod’s intention when he initiated this get-together. He wanted to clear the air with Manfred and get on the same page with central baseball as he prepares for his reentry.
It’s fair to say that the meeting was likely a little awkward for all involved. Manfred spearheaded the Biogenesis investigation that ultimately led to Rodriguez being banned for the entire 2014 season. He also served as a panel member during A-Rod’s arbitration hearing. Things were contentious between the two sides, with Manfred at one point calling Rodriguez’s career “sad” and “tarnished.” Rodriguez also unleashed an expletive in the direction of Manfred before he stormed out of his hearing last November. Obviously both of them had some things to unpack this week.
While Rodriguez is trying to make nice with Manfred, Davidoff hears that he has yet to have a similar meeting with some of the higher-ups with the Yankees. He has some damage to repair there as well with his return to the field rapidly approaching.
