A’s fire Mike Gallego, name Ron Washington third base coach

Ron Washington

Apparently changing third base coaches in August is a thing now. First the Dodgers did it, replacing Lorenzo Bundy with ex-Brewers manager Ron Roenicke. And now the A’s have done it, replacing Mike Gallego with ex-Rangers manager Ron Washington.

One difference is that Bundy remained with the Dodgers in a different role, whereas Gallego has been “relieved of his duties.”

Prior to serving as the Rangers manager for eight seasons Washington was on the A’s coaching staff from 1996-2006. He was re-hired by the A’s in May, serving as an infield coach.
