Danny Espinosa was finally placed on the disabled list earlier this week after playing through a broken bone in his right wrist for the past month, but he’s going to attempt to rehab the injury for now.
According to Chase Hughes of CSNWashington.com, Nationals manager Davey Johnson said that Espinosa received a cortisone shot in the wrist today and is expected to resume baseball activities in 4-5 days. As for the pre-existing tear in his left rotator cuff, Johnson said that an MRI revealed “a little injury,” but it doesn’t appear to be a major concern at this time.
Espinosa was batting just .158/.193/.272 through 44 games this season, so the hope is that the extended rest will get him back on track. Anthony Rendon will handle second base duties while he’s on the mend.
