Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com reports that the Indians have agreed to a minor-league contract with outfielder Robbie Grossman, who was recently released by the Astros.
Grossman was once a very intriguing prospect thanks to his excellent plate discipline and consistently huge on-base percentages, but he’s hit just .240 with 11 homers and a .668 OPS in 190 games as a big leaguer through age 25.
Cleveland has been looking for outfield depth in case left fielder Michael Brantley misses a big chunk of the season following shoulder surgery and Grossman could crack the Opening Day roster as a part-timer.
