Jerry Sands was in line for expanded playing time for the Rays when he went down with a wrist injury three weeks ago and today the team announced that he’ll require season-ending surgery.
Sands has struggled to find consistent at-bats in the majors for the Dodgers and Rays despite showing 30-homer power in four seasons at Triple-A, where he posted an .832 OPS in more than 1,500 plate appearances.
