Orioles sign Marlins castoff Ryan Webb for $4.5 million

Ryan Webb was non-tendered because the Marlins weren’t willing to pay him around $1.5 million despite a very good 2013 season and now Jonah Keri of Grantland reports that he’ll be getting more money elsewhere.

According to Keri the right-handed reliever has agreed to a two-year, $4.5 million deal with the Orioles, who’re looking for late-inning bullpen help following the trade of closer Jim Johnson to the A’s.

Webb posted a 2.91 ERA and 54/27 K/BB ratio in 66 innings for the Marlins this year, giving him a 3.29 career ERA in 276 innings through age 27. He’s been a consistently solid setup man-caliber reliever with impressive ground-ball rates and it’s possible that Webb could even be in the mix for saves in Baltimore at some point.
